2 Heroes You Probably Haven’t Heard Of….Until Now

We are living in a society that all-too-often values and celebrates the wrong things. Heroes aren’t idiots from Jersey Shore. Heroes aren’t selfish no-talent heiresses. Heroes aren’t spoiled entitlement-minded celebrities. It’s a shame that so many look up to them as if they are.

Heroes are people who are leaders of possibility. They are paving the way with courage and love. They are doers, not talkers. Heroes show the rest of us the way to live right. They face adversity and overcome it.

“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” -Joseph Campbell

The following are 2 heroes you probably haven’t heard of and will likely never forget after watching these. These are true role-models and amazing individuals who in the truest sense are heroes.

“If you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything.”

Rad Martinez

As a Mixed Martial Arts fighter who aspires to a title shot someday, Rad Martinez must make sacrifices to train his body to compete in this sport’s pitiless, physical competition. But for this 32-year-old from Utah …. there is another sacrifice that has come to define his existence…a promise etched in pain. Outside the Lines producer Dan Arruda presents the story of a man who every day must live up to the grief-stricken words he spoke five years ago … as told by Rad Martinez himself.

Dewey Bozella

From the 2011 ESPYs: Matthew McConaughey tells the story of this year’s Arthur Ashe Award for courage winner Dewey Bozella.

    Awesome Heroes!

Amazing stories and great messages Sam.
From Rad “…I know people could do it”
From Dewey, “…fight for a worthy cause”

Sometimes our “big” in appearance problems are really insignificant. Very inspiring. Thank you Sam!

I actually train at the same gym as Rad. He’s an incredible guy. :)

“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” -Joseph Campbell

strong quote. I am a believer that you cant make a change or influence other people/world until you have your own self squared away. I think the ultimate reason for life is living and influencing something bigger than oneself, but getting to the point that you can do that….it’s amazing

Both amazing, TRUE heroes. I’ve heard Rad’s story before — truly inspiring.
I’m about to cry I’m so moved by Dewey. To forgive the man who killed his brother & the police, prosecutors, etc who could have “ruined” his life — what a beautiful person. Rather than hold on to a grudge & let it destroy him, he is moving on & giving/sharing with others what he’s gained.
I’ve been bothered a lot recently with the “heroes” of our generation & the Jersey Shore brats (I actually just watched a couple dumb youtube videos recently, because I didn’t know who Snooky was. I was better off not knowing.). It’s really sad who people are looking up to. This is really inspiring though. Thank you, Sam.

Great post. These are real heroes and they help us put our lives into perspective. Most people do not go through half of what these two men have yet many still complain. Keep up the good work..
